Southend Hockey Club is eagerly looking forward to the coming season having just completed a very successful summer of league hockey at Chelmsford.

The club, which incorporates Southend and Benfleet Ladies, runs four Saturday men's teams, two Saturday ladies' line-ups - all of whom play in leagues - a Sunday mixed team and two midweek men's indoor evening squads.

The clubhouse and grass pitches are at Belfairs Sports Ground and the AstroTurf pitch at Waterside Farm Sports Centre, Canvey.

Southend are looking for new players for the coming season for men's and ladies' teams. Newcomers, of any age or experience, will be most welcome.

They are particularly keen to recruit players in the under-20 age group who can hopefully be trained to become the first team of the future.

Previous hockey experience isn't necessary as full training is given. Keenness is the only requirement.

The club is very sociable and is committed to providing a happy environment in which players can enjoy their hockey and progress as far as they wish within the sport.

Pre-season training starts on Southend's AstroTurf pitch at Waterside tomorrow night from 9pm. If you have never played hockey before but would like to give it a go, or if you once played but not for some time and would like to start again, why not go along and give it a go.

It'll cost nothing and players will enjoy it. For further details ring Mike Tetley on 01702 343565 or (lady players) Gail Swain on 01268 758823.
