Ramblers manager Colin Wallington described as 'unspectacular but workmanlike,' Saturday's performance which took Burnham to the top of the table.

Due to injury he was down to a bare squad but said afterwards: "Given the players that were missing, I thought it was a reasonably good display, with Nicky Wright and Matt Fletcher outstanding."

Though Ramblers initially looked flat a goal in six minutes eased the nerves.

Nigel Hewes crossed from the right and Kristian Down headed home and 10 minutes later, Wright fired in a shot that Hewes touched home.

On 45 minutes a glorious 30 yard lob from Hewes brought a great save from East Ham's Burnett.

On 60 minutes, Francis should have put Hewes clear, but the pass was poor and in the 62nd minute, East Ham's Mansell went close after a mazy run.

Kristian Down then got away and did well to touch it past the outcoming goalkeeper.

However, his challenge with the chasing defender saw him come off second best, possibly a penalty, in what was probably an issue of strength.

Burnham Ramblers: King, Arnold, Thurley, Fletcher, Tracey, Brown, Yoonan (Smith), Wright, Hewes, Francis, Down (Down).

On Saturday the first team to go Bury, kick off 3pm.

The Reserves had a 2-1 win over Tilbury Ramblers, goals coming in the first half from Luck and Docherty.

The reserves host Hullbridge on Saturday in the league and on Monday go to Ilford for an Essex Senior Trophy tie.
