Rehearsals are under way for a school performance which will premiere in the Millennium Dome next year.
Professional artists joined 50 pupils from Southend schools to start workon the production at Eastwood School.
The multimedia performance, using stories about the people of Southend and called Our Town Story, will be shown in the dome on March 30.
The millennium scheme, Southend Moving Online, will also engage young people in a CD-Rom project via schools, South East Essex College and the youth service.
All the information will then be presented in an interactive CD-Rom, which will be completed at the end of this year.
