Syd Anderson saw his 10-4 lead evaporate as the village team's A Willsmere pulled the score back to 18-18 before he won by three shots.

Ron May enjoyed a close game against S Everard, but won by a two-shot advantage.

Les Carrol, Geoff Bromley, Dave Cane and Brian Hennesey were far too strong for their Great Wakering counterparts when they won the President's Prize.

They were 19-0 up after seven ends, 25-1 up at tea, 40-5 up after 18 ends and 43-7 at the end of the game.

Lea on the boil after cup of tea

A cup of tea was the tonic Des Lea needed to ease himself to victory when Southchurch Park met Alexandra in the Parren Shield.

Park's Lea trailed at the halfway stage against Alexandra's John Everett, but drew level at 12-all after having a cuppa.

The game went to 15-all before Lea won the game by six shots.

Scores (Southchurch Park first):

Michael Nunn 28, Dennis Reader 15; Fred King 19, Derek Pratt 19; Des Lea 25, John Everett 19. Southchurch 72 (9 points), Alexandra 53 (1 point).

There was a complete reversal when Alexandra travelled to take on Southchurch Park in the Beharrel.

Cyril Kilby took an early lead, but was then pegged back to seven-all, 15-all and 16-all by Peter Stainer.

Kilby's point was the only one Park scored as their Alexandra opponents proved too strong.

Scores (Southchurch Park first):

Ian Wakeman 11, Mark Stainer 29; Cyril Kilby 16, Peter Stainer 16; Gerry Treadway 15, D Dawson 22. Southchurch Park 42 (1 point), Alexandra 66 (9 points).

Earlier in the week Southchurch enjoyed a comprehensive 86-34 victory when they played a mixed three-rink friendly against Leigh.

Husband-and-wife team Audrey and Ron Walker both led from the start for Park, while Frank Miller trailed at the halfway stage before ending his rink with a four-shot win.

Frank Miller 21, B Shephard 17; Ron Walker (captain) 29, R Brennan 9; Audrey Walker 36, R Bennell 8. Southchurch Park 86, Leigh 34.

Shoebury did enough to take the lion's share of the points when they travelled to Southchurch Park in the Tuesday Morning Triples.

Viv Hyde led from the start on her rink and was seven shots up when Shoebury's R Foster carded a six on the 16th end to pull back to one behind before they shared the shots on the last two ends to give Viv a one-shot win.

Peter Chilton won the first two ends on the other rink before Shoebury's D Jones woke up and romped away to victory.

Scores (Southchurch Park first):

Peter Chilton 7, D Jones 19; Viv Hyde 20; R Foster 19. Southchurch Park 27 (2 points), Shoebury 38 (4 points).
