A policeman has lost his job after he made obscene telephone calls to his neighbours.
Eric Doherty, 40, terrorised his Langdon Hills neighbour with calls which were of an explicit sexual nature.
Victim Gill Hazlewood, who did not know who was making the calls to her home, lost nearly a stone in weight with worry.
Mrs Hazlewood and her husband Rob, of Glenwood Gardens, had become friends with Metropolitan policeman Doherty and his wife because their sons had gone to the same school.
The two married couples had even got out for a meal together.
British Telecom's nuisance calls bureau promptly traced the calls to Doherty, of Reeves Close, Langdon Hills.
The policeman of five years was given a two-month suspended prison sentence by Basildon magistrates in June.
He has now lost his job after a disciplinary hearing board learned he had a criminal record for making the calls.
Doherty had previously terrorised another woman, Dawn, when he was living in Chadwell Heath near the police station where he was working in Plaistow.
