Young duo Chanelle Moore and Matt Richardson helped South Woodham Ferrers & Wickford Rollerspeed Skating Club round the season off in style by hitting top form in an outdoor meeting hosted by Southend-based Team Belotti.

Moore came first in both category five races over 500m and 1000m, while Richardson matched that feat in category four as the pair emerged triumphant overall in their respective groups.

Also in Moore's category, Richard Webb claimed third spot by coming third and fourth, while Sara Wallis was fourth (coming fourth and third) and Sam Morrison fifth (two fifths) out of the six competitors.

Billy Moore finished a creditable third in category six by finishing in that place over 500m and 1000m.

Michael Mizen was a place behind him, coming second and fourth in the five-strong field.

Only three skaters contested category seven, with Jane Watkins second (after twice being runner-up) and Chris Mizen third.

Richardson's success in category four was consolidated by Jonathan Wallis (third and second) and Sam Gosling (second and third), who were second and third overall respectively.

Gosling survived a nasty tumble to beat Wallis across the finishing line in the second race.

Helen Warlow came sixth out of the seven skates, finishing sixth and fifth.

Jonathan Morrison performed well to finish second out of eight, courtesy of third and second places over 3000m.

Gary Moore was sixth, ending in sixth and fifth places.

A 5000m race for junior girls and boys and senior ladies was held, in a field of 23 skaters.

Gary Moore was 11th, Morrison 12th, Jonathan Wallis 15th, Chanelle Moore 17th, Matt Richardson 20th and Sara Wallis 22nd.

Chanelle Moore took the silver medal in the junior girls section.

Meanwhile, Joshua Morrison won the age four to seven group.

It was another season of reasonable success for South Woodham, who are sponsored by ECL Consultants Ltd, with skaters topping the national rankings in the mini girls, mini boys, cadet girls and cadet boys sections.

The last event of 1999 will be the British Marathon, half-marathon and mini-marathon, on a circuit surrounding Derbyshire's County Cricket ground in Chesterfield on Sunday, October 24.
