A verdict of accidental death has been recorded, after a man from Ulting died in a car accident.

Kevin Samuels, 35, from Little Mill Cottages, died after he lost control of his Toyota car on a sweeping bend on the Goldhanger Road, Heybridge towards Maldon, in July, a Chelmsford Coroner's Court heard last Wednesday.

Coroner's officer Stephen Parfrey told how Mr Samuels, who took prescribed drugs to control his epilepsy, was found to have nearly two and a half times the legal amount of alcohol in his blood at the time of the accident.

As Mr Samuels lost control of the vehicle he went off the road, hitting various objects and then hit parked vehicles.

PC Ian Donaldson, who works for the Essex Police traffic investigation unit, said how Mr Samuels had been driving along the 40mph road at 83mph.

Marilyn Springett, who was driving along the same street at the time of the accident, told the court how she saw the Toyota hit a pylon.

"There were cables coming down. I did an emergency stop and put my car into reverse to avoid the poles coming down," she said.

Mr Samuels, who was married with two children, was trapped in the vehicle after the accident and was confirmed dead at the scene, after suffering multiple injuries.

Coroner Dr Malcolm Weir said that the court offered deep condolences to Mr Samuel's wife and other members of the family.
