A teenage girl had to be cut free from a car by fire crews after being involved in a road smash.

Five people were travelling in a Renault Clio along Thorpe Road, Kirby Cross, when it left the road and ended up in a field at about 8.30pm on Monday night.

Passenger Holly Gooding, 17, of Church Lane, Great Holland, suffered back and head injuries, and had to be cut free from the car by fire crews.

She was taken to Colchester General Hospital but was released yesterday.

Another passenger, Fiona Brett, 17, of Welfield Way, Kirby Cross, received whiplash and cuts and received hospital treatment.

The other two passengers and the driver did not need treatment for their minor injuries.
