A Little Oakley golfer scored his first hole-in-one - at one of Europe's top golf courses.

Tony Dumper, 52, of Aspen Way, Little Oakley, was playing with some friends on the San Lorenzo Championship course in the Algarve.

He said: "It is a beautiful course. The 16th hole was a 172 metres, there was a little bit of wind behind us. I took a six iron and hit the green, the ball rolled down the slope and into the hole."

Mr Dumper, who has a 19 handicap and plays left-handed, has been playing golf for five years.

It was only the third hole-in-one in the club's 11 year history.

The San Lorenzo course is rated the second most prestigious golf course in Europe and the course management presented Tony with an engraved crystal goblet, champagne and a certificate shortly after the completion of the round.

Mr Dumper, a building director, is a member of Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club.
