Five Star Amateur Boxing Club are staging their first open show for two years at Browsters Hall, Gooshays Drive, in Harold Hill, tomorrow, commencing at 8pm.

Everyone involved in the club hopes this is the first of many hoping to put the club on the map.

Trainer Alan Bush said the gym has just undergone refurbishment and gives the gym much more scope, Alan feels he has some good prospects at the moment and hopes the show will promote the sport in the Essex area.

Competition secretary Tony Conway said: ''We have 14 bouts matched at the moment for Friday's show eight of which are Five Star boys.

''The juniors are: Jamie Anthony, 16, Daniel Martin, 12, Tony Issacs, 16, and Adam Digbywolfe, 16.

''The senior lads are Danny Sanders, 19, Danny Hazel, 27 and the Horton brothers Richard, 19, and his brother Barry, 25.

Barry Horton has had six bouts, winning five, and has already boxed for London in November 1999 against a Select Army squad in which he stopped his opponent in the second round.

Friday's show promises all the trappings of an entertaining evening.

Five Star was founded in 1952 and see the recent refurbishment as a turning point for the future generation they are starting to attract.

The new Millennium has brought a new lease of life to the gym with more young men keen to learn the noble art .

Five Star are in an excellent position to attract boys in and around Essex, and with the club's wealth of experience they are ready to work hard to ascertain a reputation that most London clubs have previously held the monopoly of.

A sponsorship has been gratefully received from Bridge Maintenance Ltd of Braintree.

For more information regarding the show or memberships, telephone Mr Elf Adams or Jason Bestwick, (on Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings) on 01708 340152.
