Ford white collar workers will take their first strike action on Monday with a one hour walk out over pay.

The company's salaried staff voted to strike after failing to persuade bosses to match their pay demands, wanting a settlement equivalent to that given to workers on an hourly wage.

Ford was in talks with the salaried unions last week, but the unions, which represent clerical and admin staff as well as engineers, decided to take strike action.

Following the one hour strike on Monday there are plans for one day strikes on Thursday, February 24 and Tuesday, 29 and for a three day walkout over March 6, 7 and 8 as well as a ban on overtime and travel.

A spokesman for Ford, said: "We regret the salaried unions' decision to take strike action and the company will take steps to ensure any disruption, especially in relation to its effects on our customers, is minimised."
