James Scowcroft believes it was in the script for Marcus Stewart to bury his old club Huddersfield.

The Ipswich Town hitman, who signed from the Terriers for £2.5m nearly two weeks ago, scored the second goal at Portman Road to finish off Steve Bruce's side.

And Scowcroft, who scored the opener in front of a near-capacity crowd, said: "It couldn't have worked out better for Marcus because it was a big game for him.

"His sale really spurred the Huddersfield players on to try and get a result and they made life very difficult for us.

"But I think the script was written for him to score the winner against his former team-mates. Things like that happen all the time and I don't think anyone should be too surprised.

"He's slotted into the side really well and has given everyone at the club a real lift. He's scored goals wherever he's played and I'm sure Huddersfield are missing him already.

"The move took a lot of people by surprise but we're pleased we've got someone with so much quality to play alongside David Johnson up front."

Stewart, whose goal took his season tally to 18, added: "It was real Roy of the Rovers stuff to score the winner against my old team.

"It's not easy to play against people you regard as close friends as well as the fans because they were always very good to me during my spell at the club.

"They gave me a brilliant reception when I came out to warm up and I made a point of going over to them at the end of the game to thank them for their support.

"But I am an Ipswich player now and want to concentrate on getting this club into the Premiership.

"It's everyone's ambition to play there and I'm no different. If we keep on performing like we did against Huddersfield, we'll get there."
