Canvey Island has received the welcome news that their money-spinning home League game with Aldershot Town will definitely go ahead on Saturday week.

The match would have been posponed, with Shots instead making a far lower key midweek visit later in the season, if the Hampshire side had won their home FA Umbro Trophy with Woking last night.

However, Surrey-based Nationwide Conference Woking won the replay 1-0 to earn a fifth round trip to Southport on Saturday week.

It means that, along with Saturday's home derby with Billericay, Canvey can now look forward to two crowds in excess of the 1,000 mark in eight days at Park Lane.

On Tuesday night, Gulls warmed up for Saturday's Billericay clash with a 2-0 friendly home win over Dr Martens League Chelmsford City.

Chris Duffy gave them the lead with a great 47th minute 25-yarder and substitute Sammy Cooper made it 2-0 ten minutes from time.
