Maldon Carnival organisers are appealing to clubs and organisations in the town to spare members to help at the gates on carnival day.
This year's carnival week runs from July 30 finishing with carnival day on Saturday August 5 when help is particularly needed.
"What we would ideally like is a local group to come forward with some volunteers so I can work out a rota and avoid having people stuck on the gates for up to 12 hours," said secretary Lyn Smith.
She added: " We will have non-stop entertainment from 4pm to 9.30pm ending with fireworks. It will be a varied programme with something for everyone."
The carnival committee is also seeking past queens to create a queens' float. Anyone who is a past queen or knows the whereabouts of past queens can contact procession organiser Mick Staines on 01621 856310.
Any organisation willing to help man the gates can contact 01621 852147.
