Transport campaigners were celebrating this week after hearing that rail chiefs had caved in to their demands for improved passenger facilities at Brentwood's shabby station.
For months angry commuters have been campaigning to get the station's padlocked toilets reopened, to get the waiting room open longer and to have the cycle shed moved nearer the platform for increased security.
Now, at last, Railtrack - which owns the station - and train operator Great Eastern Railway have finally agreed that work will go ahead, to the delight of local people.
Cllr David Kendall, who lead the protests, said: "It's very good news. It's a great example of different people coming together and getting behind a campaign and getting results."
