Southend District League: Linford race to semis

The Southend District Football League has enjoyed twin success on the County scene.

In the Essex Junior Cup area final Linford Wanderers had a 6-0 win over Shell Club Reserves - John Davies scoring four - to win through to the overall semi-final stages.

It was the same story in the County Junior Trophy where Mark Richardson got four and Geoff Peddar two as Boundary disposed of Alemite 6-2.

In the Premier Division, Canvey Orient dropped two points in a double header with Cricketers, but still climbed back to second spot. Tandy scored all four goals for Orient in the two games.

Sparkbridge are third following a 3-2 win over Steelers. Rochford Town are on track for a late challenge after collecting all points on offer against Parma Sports. Rochford won 6-1 and 4-3 with Johnson grabbing six goals in all. They are now fifth.

AFC Horndon moved up to seventh after edging out Armada Sports by the odd goal in seven. Michaelson suffered the unfortunate occurrence of scoring a hat-trick and still finishing on the losing side. Hornsby got three for the winners.

With previous top dogs Enterprise having their game postponed, Hockley and Hawkwell took over the Division One leadership with a 5-1 win over Rochford Town Reserves. Powell got two.

Thundersley Rovers, lying third, stay in the race after beating Corinthians 8-1, Leffreme and Roberts scored two each.

Fryer made things hot with a hat-trick as Wickford Rangers beat Blackgate 10-1, while Belvedere went one better in the Second Division. They beat Rochford Town 3rd 11-1 with Newton getting the theory right with four. Brown scored three.

The win allows Belvedere to continue their neck-and-neck battle for title honours with Stanford Wanderers. Both side have dropped just one point in 14 games, but Belvedere lead on goal difference. Stanford won 2-0 at Chase with Scott and Kilshaw scoring.

Kuka Sports ended their bad run by thrashing bottom club Middleway 8-0. Bache scored a hat-trick, while Langdale and Leven got two each.

Branching out to further glories - that's Beech United under-14s who play in the Southend Junior League under the sponsorship of LCH Contracts.
