Michael Clegg is set to make his Ipswich Town debut at Crewe.

The former England Under 21 international, who is on a month's loan from Manchester United, travelled north with the squad earlier today (Friday).

Clegg, 22, trained with Town for the first time on Thursday and the early indications suggest he will be plunged straight into Saturday's side.

Full-back Clegg, who made just a handful of first team appearances at Old Trafford, is likely to come into the side ahead of Fabian Wilnis.

The Dutchman, who deputised for injured Gary Croft in last week's 2-1 win over Huddersfield, is the most likely candidate to make way.

Town manager George Burley, whose side look to extend their unbeaten league run to 17 games, said: "Michael had a good first session with the rest of the team but we didn't expect anything else.

"He's played in some big games for Manchester United and we're pleased to have got such a talented young lad on loan.

"I've seen him play for United's reserves on many occasions and now he's got to prove himself at another level. What he does is important because players don't always cut it when they move away from a big club but this is his chance to show what he can do."

Town will be out to erase memories of their 2-1 Worthington Cup failure earlier in the season when they visit the Alexandra Stadium.

Burley added: "We're not worried about Crewe. Rodney Jack, Mark Rivers and Paul Tait can cause problems up front but it's up to us to impose ourselves.

"If we play to our strengths then we will have nothing to fear and can expect to capture another three points."

Mark Venus (ankle) is still out so Wayne Brown continues in his absence.
