On a pitch that looked worse for wear as two teams (Wokingham and Windsor & Eton) play their games on it, Witham looked as though they were going to get thrashed for the first half hour, but by the end were well on top and disappointed that they didn't return with three points.

Wokingham started strong and Witham goalkeeper Chris Kriehn made a series of good saves, as his defence was overrun.

Wokingham took the lead, when in the 16th minute, Eurshell Fearon volleyed in a cross from the right and they continued to dominate with Dave Puckett and Spencer Tarring going close.

Towards the end of the first half Witham were showing signs of a fight back but shots from Glen Driver and Nicky Ashton were not powerful enough to trouble Nathan Freeman in the home goal.

Immediately after the break Witham equalised when Glen Driver lobbed the ball over Freeman and into the net.

Wokingham were soon back in front when Fearon forced the ball over the line after a scramble with many of the Witham players appealing vainly for offside.

Nevertheless Witham created the better chances and should have scored when both Stuart Joplin and Driver had one on ones with Freeman.

The visitors equalised in the 71st minute, when Joplin was pulled down by Freeman and Jamie Gold made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Witham played some of their best football of the season but could not find the net, with one particularly bad miss when the ball was crossed in front of goal and Nicky Ashton completely missed it and Tony Kinsella sliced the ball over the top.

On Saturday Witham host Northwood in a Ryman League match at Spa Road.

Witham Town Reserves drew 1-1 with Leyton Pennant at Spa Road.

The good news from Witham this week is that the Under 18s are through to the final of the County Cup having beaten Canvey Island (who had lost only once before this season) by 3-1 on Sunday.

Robert Fiddler scored twice to give Town a good lead but just after half time Canvey pulled a goal back.

Gerry Hawes was put through to score Witham's third goal, and complete a good performance.

This cup final is not until April 16 at Burnham Ramblers FC against opponents, as yet not known.
