Police have released the identity of a motorist crushed to death under an overturned lorry on the A120.

Mazda driver Shaun Yardley, of Terling Hall Road, Terling, near Witham, was certified dead at the scene after a five-car crash near Dunmow, at about 5.30am yesterday.

Emergency services were unable to save Mr Yardley. The 32-year-old had been travelling in the direction of Stansted Airport.

The driver of the 38-tonne Renault lorry involved in the collision was taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, suffering from shock but has since been released.

He has only been identified at this stage as a 50-year-old man from Northamptonshire.

Also involved in the collision was tanker driver Gary Croft, 25, of Mountbatten Road, Braintree, and Subaru driver David Ensore, 43, of Millfield, Barnston, also survived the smash unscathed.

The wreckage of the accident blocked the road and caused major rush-hour chaos.

Police closed the road between the Tesco roundabout and the Four Ashes traffic lights in both directions as they launched an accident investigation.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was taken to Braintree Police Station where he was subsequently released on police bail, pending further inquiries.

Police would like to hear from motorists who were using that stretch of the A120 between 5.15am and 5.45am yesterday.

Anyone with information should call Bocking traffic police on 01376 330722.
