Great Wakering Rovers may push key central defender Tommy Dalgarno into a full-time striking role on Saturday as they attempt to halt something of a Ryman League Division Three goal drought.

Rovers have taken just one point from the last six on offer, and scored one goal, while they continue to be without leading marksman Mark Hampshire due to an ankle injury. While Hampshire's been out, the goals have also dried up for his striking partner Paul Flack.

Dalgarno led the strike force at home to Schwppes Essex Senior League Concord Rangers last night and scored twice in a convincing 5-0 win . . . with a brilliant header and a chip over the goalkeeper.

The victory sees Rovers through to an East Anglian Cup area final at Jewson League Maldon, who are managed by their former boss Ben Embery.

Flack did manage a goal last night soon after coming on as a second-half substitute while Ollie Evans and a Concord defender completed the tally.

Wakering even allowed themselves the luxury of usually reliable spot-kick man Neville Hickton hitting a late penalty over the bar, but Concord's misery was compounded by Darren Brown being sent off for two bookable offences late on.

Rovers visit Dorking on Saturday and will be aware that, although the Surrey side are struggling, they have a fairly impressive home record.

Next home match at Burroughs Park is an intriguing League clash next Tuesday (7.45pm) when Hertford Town, much improved since ex-Spurs and England star Graham Roberts took over at the helm, are the visitors.

Hampshire is again rated a big doubt for Saturday with continuing ankle problems and Dalgarno's move forward may well happen . . . particularly if fellow central defender Micky Munro is fit to return from a thigh strain.
