Aarron Todd, 24, who has been in a coma at Colchester General Hospital, is improving.
Last week we told of his family's appeal for better care. Now elder brother Craig says the hospital has promised a nurse for Aarron, who was injured as a pedestrian in a road accident at Harwich in January.
Craig added: "Aarron is still not out of the woods yet but he has made improvements."
Aarron, of Main Road, Dovercourt, is now breathing unaided.
"He has both eyes open now. He does not yet respond to commands but he is making improvements and that is good," Craig said.
A petition has been launched calling for better round-the-clock care for Aarron.
Craig said yesterday: "We want to present that to Harwich MP Ivan Henderson tomorrow."
Copies of the Aarron Todd campaign petition can been found in shops and pubs around Harwich and Dovercourt or at Linn and Associates Solicitors at Haven House, Albemarle Street, Harwich CO12 3HL.
