Superstar Ian Wright will have to wait another week to get his name on the Burnley scoresheet if Colchester United boss Steve Whitton has his way.

The free-scoring former Arsenal, West Ham and England ace failed to cap his Clarets debut with a goal in the goalless draw with Wigan at Turf Moor last week.

Whitton will settle for nothing less than another lock-out when the exciting striker comes up against his in-form U's defence before a packed Layer Road tomorrow (Saturday).

Whitton said yesterday: "I know my lads are very much up for it and I'm sure Ian Wright's presence will give them all an extra edge.

"He's been a proven scorer wherever he's played, but Wigan kept him off the scoresheet last week and we have to do the same.

"Wrighty may be 36 now, but he's a player who's still got everything and over the years he's scored for fun. He's played more than 600 games in his career and he's Arsenal's record scorer of all time. His enthusiasm will keep him going."

Wright is reported to be earning more in a week for promotion-chasing Burnley than the entire U's team, but Whitton insisted that will stand for nothing and he's taking no special measures to contain the ex-England man.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it," said the U's boss.

"My lads, especially the defence, are in pretty good form themselves and all I will be saying to them before the match is go out there, be professional and go about your business as you have been doing against Stoke and Wigan in the past two weeks."

Tony Lock and Thomas Pinault each netted twice in the U's reserves 4-1 Avon Insurance Combination win over Portsmouth at the Garrison Ground on Wednesday.
