In the Southend Charity Competition semi-finals, Borough Combination Shoebury Town kept alive their hopes of retaining their hold on the senior Section A Shield.

They took on star-studded District League Linford Wanderers and triumphed 3-0 with all three goals coming from Blake.

They will have a lengthy wait before discovering who their final opponents will be. For Intermediate League Runwell Hospital host Combination Southchurch Hall OS on March 18 with the winners than taking on another Intermediate outfit, Ekco First Data, in the semis.

Section B will see an all Borough Comb final. Newton Hall, thanks to a vital goal from Hull, saw off Laindon Athletic to earn the right to meet Sibar Sports, who were 4-2 winners over Combi-nation rivals Leigh Ramblers thanks to two goals from McAnaw.

Section C will also see the Combination reign supreme. Southend Collegians triumphed over Shoebury OB in a penalty shoot-out.

Shoebury had led 2-1 at the break thanks to a Gary Ledger double, but Wheeler and Thorn took the tie into extra-time and the ex-College boys were on the spot for glory.

They will take on Division One leaders Old Rochfor-dians, who proved too strong for District League Sparkbridge to the tune of 5-2. Godfrey served his side well with a double.

Section D proved a real thriller. Combination Kings Field Casuals were locked at 1-1 after extra-time against District League Wickford Rangers.

But it was Rangers who earned their final spurs by winning the penalty shoot-out 9-8.

They will now meet BKS Sports who won 3-1 by grounding fellow Combi-nation side Flightspares. P Young, Hall and S Hope got the BKS goals.

It was the District League's turn to dominate in Section E. Their Stanford Wanderers team beat Combination Kuka Sports 4-2 thanks to a Richardson brace.

Also, another District outfit, Boundary, had Ballard on song with the only goal of the game in a victory over Borough Comb Brook Sports.
