Rowhedge looks set to get a facelift after councillors agreed major plans for the village.

A meeting of Colchester Council's planning and traffic regulation committee Thursday night agreed the outline application which will see a former scrapyard and builders yard transformed into a residential development and 60 bed nursing home.

It also includes an area of open space and a nature reserve.

Originally the plans for the area in High Street and Marsh Crescent were agreed in 1996, but were never realised.

Now the plans have been resubmitted and councillors at last night's meeting voted in favour of allowing them to go ahead so long as a string of conditions are carried out.

The meeting also asked for a note to be given to the developers to show general approval of the plans already submitted and requested 15 per cent of the housing on the site be affordable housing.
