The mother and son who died in a five vehicle crash on the M11 on Monday have been named as Mrs Jeanette O'Sullivan, 37, and six-year-old Robert, from Rainham.

Daughter Amy, 10, is said to be "serious" in Great Ormond Street Hospital, London; but husband Cornelius, 39, was treated in Princes Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, and discharged.

The accident happened at about 11.30am on the northbound carriageway between the junctions for Harlow and Bishops Stortford.

Four cars and an articulated lorry were involved in the accident.

Firemen from Chelmsford, Stansted, Old Harlow, Epping, Leigh, Bishops Stortford and Grays fought to free five people and the Essex Air Ambulance helicopter ferried them to hospital.
