Heartless vandals have smashed up a play area for four-year-olds at a primary school.

Teachers at High Woods County Primary School were devastated to find the damage this morning.

Vandals had kicked in the doors and windows of a play house which doubles as a storage area for play equipment.

Not content with causing £100 damage to the play house, the wreckers smashed up the early years equipment inside.

Headteacher Kathy Dowsett said: "We have had reports of teenagers on the school grounds at the weekend. I can't believe that they target not only the school but an area for four-year-old children. It seems particularly sad."

Mrs Dowsett said: "The teachers are devastated because instead of improving it we have now got to spend the money on just putting it back how it was."
