A new and hard-hitting comedy is coming to the Dixon Studio at the Palace Theatre.

Danny Boy is a contemporary play set in Northern Ireland and it promises to be controversial.

It looks at the situation in Northern Ireland and its effect on one man.

Danny is an Ulsterman who has a vision and learns that he is the son of God. Churches, politics and people of power start to squabble over the 30-something man for their own political ends.

Just when it can't get any worse Danny learns that the devil wants to kill his budgie and the Pope wants to kick his head in.

This satirical piece of writing comes from Roy Smiles, who draws on his time as a stand-up comic to weave an intriguing drama of fear and exploitation.

Both funny and hard-hitting, Danny Boy contains strong language and uncompromising dialogue.

Tickets for the show ,which runs from tonight until March 18, are available from the box office at the Palace Theatre, London Road, Westcliff, or by calling 01702 342564.
