Usually it's streets, shopping centres and housing developments which have the grand opening ceremonies.
But in Maldon, its the opening of a new alleyway which has been celebrated.
The Friars Gate alleyway, which runs between Woolworths and Budgens onto to Maldon High Street, cost £27,000 to revamp.
Chairman of Maldon District Council Roy Pipe performed the ribbon-cutting duties yesterday (Thursday).
Improvements include a new sandstone feature outside Woolworths, street lighting and new sign plates.
Opening - Roy Pipe, chairman of Maldon District Council, cuts the ribbon, watched by, left, Robert Scrimgeour, of the conservation area partnership scheme, and Paul Rew, town mayor.
