Just one goal separated the teams at the end of a hard midfield struggle at Berkhamsted on Saturday.

Witham's main problem was again being unable to get shots on target and home goalkeeper Nicky Webb did not have a shot to save throughout the game.

Berkhamsted have recently strengthened their side and won their previous four games and beat the league leaders Ford United during the week.

The only goal of the game came in the 67th minute when after a goalmouth scramble with Witham having opportunities to clear the ball, it fell nicely to Wes Foley on the edge of the area who netted with a low shot through the crowded goalmouth with the luckless Witham goalkeeper Chris Kriehn unsighted.

So another close defeat for Witham as their chances of avoiding relegation to the third division diminish.

Witham Town: Kriehn, Bartlett, Golby (Hogg 80 minutes), English, Dignam, Vincent, Ashton, Bassett (Dean 60 minutes), Woolnough (Hawes 80 minutes), Driver and Gold.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Witham host division two basement dwellers Chalfont St Peter at Spa Road (kick off 3pm).
