Two sparkling century breaks helped Tipree snooker ace Ali Carter book a place in the sixth qualifying round for the televised stage of the 25th Embassy World Championship.

A 10-6 triumph over Glasgow's Martin Dziewialtowski at the Preston Guild Hall set up a tie against Joe Perry, of Cambridge, today.

Provisionally 101st in the latest Embassy World Rankings, the 20-year-old Carter knocked in successive breaks of 103 and 107 in frames 10 and 11 of the best of 19-frame match against the Scot.

Delighted with his performance, he said: "It was a bit close at 5-4 after the first session, but I stretched it to 9-6 and thankfully stuck in there to take the match.

"I wasn't quite as relaxed as when I beat Mark Johnston-Allen, but a win is a win and I'm through to the next round."

If Carter beats Perry in a tie which concludes today, he still needs to win two further matches to progress to the televised stage of the Embassy World Championship which takes place at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield next month.

Carter first hit the headlines last autumn when he best reigning world champion Stephen Hendry in the Grand Prix, also at the Guild Hall.
