Cricket development officers from the Essex County Club will be coming to the Southend Tennis and Leisure Centre at Garon Park on Saturday week.

They'll be there to introduce the game to members of Southend Mencap Sports Club.

The visit is part of Essex's long-term plans to encourage interested disabled people, of all ages and both sexes, to take part in the sport.

It is hoped that, eventually, there will be enough players of mixed disabilities to form a district team with the best going on to represent Essex in the disability county league competition.

Anyone who is disabled and interested in getting involved in cricket should contact Richard Wiggins, Disabilities Co-ordinator, South Essex Cricket Board, 35 Oakhurst Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. SS2 5DT or ring 01702 610548.

Southend Mencap Sports Club meets every Saturday from 2-4pm at the Southend Tennis and Leisure Centre.
