A 14-year-old from Brentwood is set to represent England this weekend after a storming performance in the Schools Cross-country Championship.

Brentwood's Andrew Rolfe, 14, who attends St Martin's School, Brentwood, competed in the English Schools Cross-Country Championships which were held at Parliament Hill in London.

He raced against 320 boys and finished sixth despite being tripped over in the early stages (he was five seconds off third place).

The team of six boys representing Essex Schools in the "junior boys" event came first beating their closest rivals Middlesex by a clear 100 points.

The team placings were second, sixth, 10th, 12th, 27th and 45th.

Andrew and seven other athletes will now represent England in the Home Internationals which will be held at Beech Park, Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland this Saturday (April 1).

To reach this event, Andrew had to qualify in the Mid Essex Schools followed by the Essex Schools Championships. In these races he finished first and second.

Andrew runs for Thurrock Harriers Athletic Club and recently won the Essex Under 15 Boys Cross-Country League, after winning all five of the qualifying races.
