Chris Chenery looks to be well on the way towards a clean sweep of medals after yet another impressive haul for Borough of Castle Point Swimming Club at the Essex County Swimming Championships.

The nine-year-old won gold in both the 100m and 200m freestyles and 200m backstroke to take his tally to five golds. He now has two events left in April to complete the clean sweep.

Young Sammy Ace lived up to her name when she rose from her sick bed to sneak into the 100m backstroke final. The 11-year-old then swam brilliantly to take a silver medal.

Paul Barruskas, 14, climbed on to the medal podium for the first time when he snatched third place in the 200m individual medley. And there were double the reason for him to celebrate when he realised he'd also achieved his qualifying time for the Southern County Championship.

Another first-time finalist was 13-year-old Jessica Jones, who swam a personal best to pinch third place in the 100m butterfly. Further personal bests came from Matthew Brown, 13, with a third place in the 200m butterfly and fourth place in the 100m butterfly.

Natasha Chignell set a personal best to come second in the 200m breaststroke final and there were silver medals for brothers Ben, 16, and Craig Wheeler, 13, in the 400m and 200m freestyle respectively.

Ben also had a third place in the 200m and Craig qualified for the national championships with fifth spot in the 400m freestyle.

Borough of Southend Swimming Club returned from the championships with three golds, two silvers and two bronze medals.

As already reported, golds went to Nathalie Brown (200m butterfly and individual medley, 17 years and over) and Elizabeth McKinnon (19-and-over 200m butterfly).

There was also a bronze medal for Susannah Carrol in the 12-years-and-over 200m individual medley but she narrowly missed out on achieving the qualifying time for the National Age Group.

Among the other creditable performers were Adam Hickey, 12, (4th in 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke) and sister Maria, who scored sixth place in the 10 years age group.

Jonathon Sayer was 4th in the 200m freestyle after swimming exceptionally well and 14-year-old Gareth Hand scored the same placing in the 400 individual medley.
