Troubled under-18s club night Intrigue is to reopen in two weeks at a completely new venue outside Leigh.

The original venue at the Leigh Coliseum in Elm Road, was refused an entertainment license before Christmas, after a series of crime and disorder incidents outside the club.

An appeal was also refused but now Intrigue promoter Paul Masters, is to run the night from Bar Central in Lucy Road, Southend.

Mr Masters said he had been inundated with calls from teenagers and parents since the closure of Intrigue last December.

He said: "We were under so much pressure from these kids to get somewhere open and the Coliseum doesn't look like it's going to be open for some time.

"I went there yesterday and picked up 30 or 40 letters asking what was happening."

Following the Coliseum closure, Intrigue had opened in Cheeks, Southchurch Road, for a while, although Mr Masters said it had proved too small.

The new Intrigue will feature everything that made it so popular in Leigh, including the same DJ, staff, and policies.

Mr Masters continued: "They had such a good time in Intrigue. My kids have been to other under 18s nights, and they say it's just not the same. I have a rapport with all the kids and we all have a good time."

Intrigue will open on Sunday April 9 and Mr Masters added he could see no reason why Bar Central shouldn't become the night's new home.

He said: "At Bar Central there is plenty of room for parents to pick up their kids and I can't see any problem with it at all. It will be members only and I don't think it will attract the London element."

Mike Dolby, chairman of Leigh town council, which opposed Intrigue's application for a license at the Coliseum said he wished Mr Masters well at the new venue.

He said: "If it is in Lucy Road, then it is an entertainment area and not a residential area, and that's where it should be.

"It was a successful club but it was too successful for where it was and I hope it is even more successful."
