several of the championship honours in the Southend Borough Combination have been settled, but things are still wide open in the Premier Division where Southchurch Hall's hopes of the top honour were more or less ended with a 2-1 home defeat by Shoebury Town, Doyle and Roth grabbing the vital goals.

White Ensign scrambled a 2-2 draw with bottom team Borough Rovers and have the best chance of the title, but Shoebury could still catch them. Leigh Ramblers have left it late with Schmid getting a brace in their 5-3 win over Old Southendian, but they are unlikely to finish above their current third place.

Southchurch have some compensation as their 5-1 win at Old Southendian sees them well clear in the Reserve Division title hunt. Sims and Lamb scored two apiece. However, Sibar Sports , who won 7-2 at Catholic, can still catch them. Sexton (3) and Green (2) got the goals.

Old Rochfordian are confirmed as Division One champions after Godfrey's hat-trick helped them beat Catholic United 5-0 away. Westcliff Amateur are confirmed as runners-up following their 5-2 success over Eton House OB and should have a return to the top flight after an absence of many years.

Division Two has been settled as Royal Bank of Scotland, following a close 2-1 win over Monarchs Sports with Grainger and Phillips netting, cannot be caught and are champions. Closest rivals World Aviation were losing 3-1 to Customs, Spear scoring a hat-trick, and Southend Postmen, with two games to play, could be runners-up now.

Division Three is a straight fight between leaders Flightspares, who won 4-0 at White Ensign 3rd with Bloss scoring two, and Kings Field Casuals, who were held 3-3 at home by Catholic 3rd.

There are still some options in Division Four. Heath Sports 2nd came back from a 1-0 interval deficit to beat Old Southendian 2nd 3-1 and are still top. Southchurch Hall 3rd, currently second, drew 3-3 with Shoebury OB 2nd, who with games in hand are still favourites. Zdanzcuk got two for Southchurch and Whitworth notched a brace for Shoebury.

Parsons Barn, with a 3-3 draw with Southchurch Hall 4th, are now just a point clear of Zebra Sports at the top of Division Five. Zebra beat Cupids 3rd 6-1 with Cox grabbing a hat-trick.
