Braintree Town have been rocked by the resignation of manager John Bennett.
Bennett went after Saturday's 4-1 defeat by bottom side Chertsey that left the Iron languishing in 12th place in Ryman League division one.
His resignation, just five months into the job, comes after a poor run that has seen a mass of new players join the club but the side slip out of the promotion picture.
Former Aveley boss Bennett took over at Cressing Road following the sacking of Richie Powling.
Coaches Ken Varney and John Clarkson have been placed in temporary charge of first team affairs.
A board meeting of the club is set to be convened soon to discuss a new appointment.
