Detectives investigating an armed robbery in Colchester are renewing their appeal for witnesses.

The robbery took place in Chapel Street North at about 2.45pm on Monday when two men entered a flat and demanded money from the two men inside.

One of the raiders was armed with a handgun and the other had a knife.

After the robbery armed police raided the Riverside Hotel in North Station Road, Colchester.

One of the raiders is believed to have spoken to a man and a woman in the Middlebrough area of town. Detectives would like to trace this couple.

Detectives also want to speak to customers who were in the Halifax, Head Street, at this time to contact them.

The victim who was taken from the flat is described as male, white, 24 years old, 6ft tall, of medium build and with short wavy dark brown hair.

He was wearing steel rimmed glasses with thick lenses, a grey chunky pullover, blue jeans and a dark blue waterproof coat.

A 27-year-old man was due to appear at Colchester magistrates court this morning in connection with the incident.
