Broken glass and discarded syringes on a Canvey beach could seriously harm toddlers and dogs, it has been claimed.
Councillor Sylvia Waymark has warned youngsters and dog walkers to be on the lookout for shards of glass buried in the sand on Concord Beach.
Mrs Waymark said: "It is so dangerous. There is broken glass there and coastguards have seen old syringes too.
"It is terrible when you think what could happen. A child could cut his foot and cut an artery and it is all so unnecessary."
The broken bottles are thought to come from youngsters partying at Canvey seafront.
Station controller of the National Coastwatch Institution at Hole Haven, Terry Coker, said: "If we are notified of a problem we send someone out to check the situation."
