A bowler ended up among the tenpins after a stunt at Colchester Superbowl.

The man, who is in his thirties, slid along one of the alleys during his evening game, and was pulled free from under the sweep bar by staff.

Manager Mike Tinston said: "This gentleman crossed the foul-line, despite notices at floor and head level forbidding this. He ran right down the middle of the lane into the machinery."

The equipment sensed the obstruction, cutting the power out, he added. "He was under no real threat, though obviously it was a silly thing to do.

"He did not appear intoxicated - he was just having a laugh. He was on his back with his feet sticking out towards the lane. He could have lifted the bar himself. There is no pressure from the sweep."
