Hutton Cricket Club held its annual Spring Dinner at the Hutton Banqueting Suite on Friday, the event being attended by over 150 members and guests.

The evening was a great success with excellent speeches from the guest speakers.

Bob McLintock, Deputy Chief Executive of Brentwood Borough Council, proposed the health of the Club, and complimenting it on its approach to the development of young people and in particular the provision of coaching for disabled children.

The response on behalf of the guests was given by Graham Gooch the former England and Essex captain, who enthralled the audience with his anecdotes about his experiences both at county and international levels.

The Club also announced the appointment of Kate Wright as the first Ladies Captain for the Club.

Kate will be delighted to hear from any girls or women who would like to learn to play as well as those who have played before and would like to join.

Coaching and practice facilities will be available on Wednesday evenings during the season. Matches will be arranged with other Essex teams.

Mike Walker the Club Chairman, announcing Kate's appointment, said: "Kate is really enthusiastic about creating the Girls and Ladies Section and we will do all we can to provide coaching, practice and regular competitive cricket both at home and away to support her plans.

''The Club has an open membership policy and we can assure new members that they will receive a warm welcome.''

Anyone interested should in the first instance telephone Kate on 01277 232199 or e-mail littledoc@ic24.net
