Animals have been blamed for killing dozens of chickens at Hylands School Farm in Chelmsford.
The corpses of headless birds were discovered scattered near the henhouse in Hatfield Grove, on Monday morning.
Police believe the henhouse was broken into over the weekend, probably by youngsters, and those responsible left the door open so animals could get in.
The RSPCA have visited the farm and said the birds were killed by animals, probably foxes.
