When kind-hearted school pupil Steven Hughes learned about what was happening in flood-stricken Mozambique, he decided to do something to help.
In a fundraising bid, the 15-year-old pupil - who has used a wheelchair since he was four - decided to get his school friends out into the fresh air for a sponsored walk.
Steven, who has brittle bone disease, has also arranged a bring-and-buy sale and a mad hair day.
Steven, a GCSE student at St Helena School, in Colchester, said people at the school were really supportive and he hoped the trio of events would help raise hundreds of pounds.
He said: "People here have been really good. They have sponsored each other and the response has been good. As well as the events, we have had collection boxes around the school and they have been filled up.
"I am very happy with the way it has gone."
About 15 people took part in yesterday's sponsored walk and more are expected to take part in today's bring-and-buy sale.
