The Eastern Spring Classic meeting at the redesigned Royston track on Sunday saw 67 riders competing for honours with 13 of them from Braintree BMX Club.

Top rider from the Club was Matthew Sewell, 6, who added to his two excellent heat wins and a second place to take a deserved win in the final.

Racing in the next group, Steven Sewell, 9, took three well fought heat wins but he was beaten into second place in his final with Ashley Hall taking fourth places in all his four events.

The Club's three young lady riders were all in the same races with Katie Roberts managing fifth places in her heats and the final, with Charlie Willsher behind her in sixth ahead of Chloe Sherwood.

Nine year olds Liam Sherwood and Liam Vant battled for positions in their races and on each occasion Sherwood stayed ahead collecting the third place in the final.

In the 12/13 year old group, Kelvin Vant took third place overall after taking a good second place in one heat with a fourth in the final.

Martin Simmons had problems all afternoon with a best placed sixth and he failed to start the final after his chain broke.

Jonathan Roberts had two fifths and a fourth but a puncture put him out of his final race.

In the 15/16 years olds, Darren Eastall took two fourths and a third place putting him through to a run-off, which he won comfortably taking him though to the final alongside Alex Humphrey who had qualified with three straight victories.

Alex rode well in the final but was beaten by a local rider with Darren taking the seventh place.

Attention now turns to the local Braintree track, opposite Towerlands this Sunday (April 9) when new riders are welcome along to have a go at this exciting sport.

There are no race fees on the day and the meeting starts at 2 pm and more details can be obtained from David Humphrey on 01376 341806.
