Police were alerted when a Chelmsford man was seen on the ledge of the Market Road multi-storey car park.

PC Kate Nicholson, Sgt Chris Gilgan and PC Jeff Moye who went to the car park at about 5pm last Thursday found the man, who is in his 20's, in a distressed state.

PC Nicholson reasoned with the man who was then grabbed and held by the two other officers.

The man was taken to the Linden Centre, adjoining Broomfield Hospital.

Insp Kevin Wakefield from Chelmsford Police praised the three officers. "This was a good piece of police work. They saved a man whose intention was to jump from the top of the car park," he said.

The three officers could be put forward for a commendation.
