A pensioner was attacked by two robbers in his own home.

The OAP struggled with a raider after disturbing two men at his home in Hatfield Peverel at about 7pm yesterday (Thursday).

Rather than flee after they were disturbed, they stayed at the house and carried out the burglary as they attacked the man.

As he struggled with the man, the other crook rifled through the house stealing cash and jewellery.

The victim was then held while his clothing was searched and a wallet was taken from his pocket.

In another incident, an elderly widow was alone in her house when cash and jewellery was taken. She did not see the men and was only aware she had been burgled when she went to bed.

Detectives believe the incidents are connected.

Det Con Simon Pateman, of Braintree CID, said: "This is a despicable attack on an elderly man.."

The suspects are described as white and aged late to early 20s. Any witnesses should contact Braintree CID on 01376 551312 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
