Cameras rolled on Clacton Pier - and the results are due to be screened at the National Film Theatre in London.

The Purple Orange Film Company were in the town shooting the 15-minute short film Holiday with George.

Writer director Linus Lindell said everyone in Clacton had been very helpful allowing the crew to use locations for the filming.

The story is about ten-year-old girl Melinda whose widowed grandfather is looking for a new woman.

The pair go to Clacton for a holiday to look for his new love, but things don't quite go according to plan.

Actresses from the Clacton Drama Society have also been drafted in as love interests for the story.

Mr Lindell said: "It's so nice to get out of London, everything here is perfect. The only problem we have is people walking by looking in the camera."

Producer Nick Coe said: "It's been amazing everyone has been so helpful. I would recommend any other independent producer to come down here. It's the new Hollywood on the east coast."

The company has already secured a deal for a screening of the film on Swedish television and is also hoping to sell it to Channel 4.

The premier screening in Britain will be at the National Film Theatre on June 30.

Other locations include the Beach Cafe on the Lower Promenade, Lancaster Gardens and Clacton railway station.
