Chelmsford Swifts Basketball Club have been invited to represent England in the Scania Cup 2000 Basketball Tournament in Stockholm, Sweden over the Easter weekend.

There are 142 boys and girls teams taking part in five different age groups with teams from Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Poland, Germany and England.

The tournament is being hailed as the Northern European Junior Club Championship with the winners able to call themselves the Club Champions of Northern Europe.

Swifts coach, Paul May, said: "We are delighted and honoured to have been invited to represent England at this prestigious tournament.

"It is a great reward for two years of hard work from a dedicated group of players and following our successes in this country, we now have a rare opportunity to test ourselves against the best in Europe.

''However, the trip will cost the Club around £2000 so we are looking for financial assistance in any form, from donations to business sponsorship.

"If there is any individual or company who would be willing to assist us in any way is asked to contact myself, Paul May, as soon as possible, on 01621 869492."
