The head of planning services at Rochford District Council has left his post after only eight months in the job, it has been revealed.

Steve Heading left his office last Friday, and his departure from the authority has been confirmed by chief executive Paul Warren.

He said he could not comment about the circumstances surrounding Mr Heading's sudden departure, although it is understood he has the right of appeal.

Mr Warren said: "I can confirm there is no impropriety or scandal and can also assure Rochford residents their council will continue to offer a first class standard of service."

Planning officer Shaun Scrutton will take over the role as head of planning services until a replacement is found.

We were unable to contact Mr Heading for comment.
