A twenty-year-old who attacked a Chelmsford teacher after he was asked to leave a school playing field was ordered to do 80 hours community service.

Kevin Setterington of Wheatfield Way, Chelmsford, was before Chelmsford Crown Court, on Friday for sentence after admitting causing actual bodily harm at an earlier hearing.

Assistant Recorder Martyn Royall told Setterington: "Because of difficulties in your background you react badly in certain circumstances when you are placed under stress. You must learn to control this aggressive behaviour.

"It's quite clear you need some help and by sending you to prison that might worsen your situation. I'm giving you an opportunity of seeking help and treatment."

Navas Daruwalla, prosecuting, said the incident happened on June 24 last year after Setterington was seen walking across the playing field at King Edward Grammar School, Chelmsford.

Witnesses saw Setterington exchanging words with a 14-year-old boy and chasing another pupil. PE teacher Brian Roberts told Setterington he was on private property and asked him to leave.

Setterington refused to leave and asked Mr Roberts what he was going to do about it.

Mr Roberts again asked him to leave and placed his hand on his arm. Setterington then threw a punch at Mr Roberts hitting him in his right eye. A scuffle took place and Mr Roberts held Setterington until police arrived.
