A daily newspaper report that green belt in Essex could be used for a future all weather racecourse is far from a 'dead cert', according to a local council.

The racecourse with parking for thousands of cars, nightclub, helipad and health and fitness centre is a planning application by Wiggins construction for Fairlop Plain, Redbridge.

A Redbridge council spokesman said last week: "To prevent any early anticipation of booking a ticket, the council feels it should asist race fans, the betting fraternity and particularly local people, by pulling the reins in before the Wiggins plan bolts out of control."

The coucil reveals that Wiggins do not own the land which is green belt and have acquired the land lease by taking over another company, there are no plans for the council to sell its interest in Fairlop and there is strong opposition locally.
